The Niagara Glen Nature Areas is a 35-hectare nature reserve located deep within the Niagara Gorge, offering a rugged alternative to the commercialized tourist areas of Niagara Falls. This "hidden gem" features over 4 kilometers of well-marked trails that wind through a rare Carolinian Forest, past prehistoric rock formations, and along the turquoise waters of the Niagara River rapids.

The site was the world's first hydroelectric megaproject, under the guidance of the Hydro-Electric Power Commission of Ontario, chaired by Sir Adam Beck. When built, it was the largest hydroelectric generating station in the world. The site would be renamed the Sir Adam Beck Generating Station in 1950. Adam Beck II began operations in 1954. This second site was the cause of the 1965 blackout in the northeastern part of North America, affecting 30M people. 'Big Becky', the world's largest boring machine at the time, was used for six years earlier this century to bore a replacement tunnel to supply water from the upper Niagara River over a distance of 10.2 kilometers. The tunnel itself was 14.4 meters in diameter. A 40M tour is available. This os an outside tour of the dam

The Niagara River offers a diverse array of scenic outlooks that cater to both adrenaline seekers and those looking for a quiet moment with nature. For the most powerful experience, Table Rock on the Canadian side and Terrapin Point on the American side provide front-row seats to the brink of the Horseshoe Falls, where the sheer volume of the water is most palpable. If you prefer a wide-angle perspective, the Prospect Point Observation Tower allows you to see all three falls simultaneously from a dramatic cantilevered position over the gorge, while the Skylon Tower provides a true bird’s-eye view of the entire river system stretching toward Lake Ontario.

Stop 8
